Rise and Shine!
Morning sun pours into this nook outside the kitchen door and, before the house stirs, I can grab a few minutes of quiet time before I start my day. My WiFi actually works out here . . . the only outdoor spot on the estate where I get a signal. I think it’s a sign! Internet aside, and I wanted to create a space that I can savor a few precious me-moments before the hectic day begins.
This Breakfast Patio is also the entrance that all my fancy visitors assume is the front door. And by fancy visitors I mean the UPS driver, the oil guy (or gal), the plumber, and the dishwasher repair person. It was the service entry originally. It’s surrounded on 3 sides by the soaring walls of the castle and gets glorious morning light. Then the sun climbs over the castle roofline and plunges it into the shade. It’s a perfect environment for tuberous begonias, hydrangeas, variegated ivy, white dahlias, and many shade-tolerant annuals. Mornings are serene times, so I am going with all-white blooms. And when my visitors arrive throughout the day, I want them to have a moment to stop and smell the flowers.
As I wait for the New England weather to cooperate, I have curated a selection of my favorite urns and placed the Adirondack chairs to maximize my exposure to the morning sun. I’m also adding to the existing pot collection, selecting plant material, and anxiously waiting for warmer days!!
Stay tuned! It’s getting better every day!
